Nobody's lying, exactly. But everyone's adding layers.

We've built a green economy that runs on the assumption that more solutions equal faster progress. It's intuitive. It feels right. It's also becoming a liability. The winners in the coming decade won't be the companies that invent another technology. They'll be the ones that actually build something reliable with what we already have.

Take the current state of alternative energy infrastructure. We don't need five more conceptually brilliant ways to extract lithium. We need one that works at scale, consistently, without creating new environmental disasters. Tech's complexity game works when you're trying to capture market share in an emerging category. It does not work when you're trying to solve problems that affect real people's health, sleep, and livelihoods. Those problems need solutions that are boring, reliable, and already in the building phase.

The operators who will matter most in the next ten years aren't the ones announcing the seventh lithium extraction method. They're the ones taking the third-best method and deploying it at scale. They're the ones accepting that their robotaxi won't be perfect but will be consistent. They're the ones building one supply chain standard instead of joining a consortium studying what standards should theoretically be.

Complexity sells conferences. Simplicity solves problems.

The environmental movement and the social sectors attached to it have all the technology they need to make serious progress. What they're missing is the willingness to stop waiting for the perfect solution and ship the adequate one. The winners will be boring. They'll operate with technologies that were theoretically possible five years ago. They'll make money by doing things reliably, not by promising things that don't exist yet.
