BYD dominates the global electric vehicle market by volume, shipping over 1.5 million EVs annually as of 2024. The company manufactures everything from mass-market sedans to commercial vehicles and batteries, positioning it as a vertically integrated powerhouse in the transition away from combustion engines.
A potential Maserati acquisition would represent BYD's entry into ultra-luxury segments. Maserati, owned by Stellantis N.V., produced roughly 38,000 vehicles globally in 2023. The brand carries heritage spanning nearly a century, though has struggled with profitability in recent years as the automotive industry shifts toward electrification.
